Dump the Jump!
When our dogs are little puppies it might seem cute when they jump up for attention, but it becomes much less endearing when they’re fully grown and leaping at your face. Not only can their nails scratch or damaged clothes and property, they can also be a bit dangerous, accidentally knocking children or adults over in their excitement. Small and medium dogs are just as guilty when they become tiny trip hazards or embarrass you when they get their muddy paws all over someone’s clothing.
Fortunately help is at hand.
With this 2 part crash course, we aim to set you and your dog up for success to finally DUMP the JUMP! We will work on different impulse control exercises positively teaching your dog that there are better choices than jumping up. We will work on the following behaviors:
Preventing the Jump
Teaching alternative behaviours
Providing positive rewards-based consequences
Giving you the tools and knowledge to DUMP the JUMP behaviour permanently!
Lovely Loose Lead
Does your dog pull on the lead? Are you tired of having sore arms or worse still, being pulled over?
All dogs need to be on a lead at various times, daily walks, trips to the vets, groomers etc. Groomers and vets are necessary for obvious reasons, but daily walks are necessary too because dogs that don't experience these things can be under-socialised which often leads to behavioural problems. Some dogs continue to pull because it becomes a rewarding experience.
For example:
He pulls to get to the car to go for walks
He pulls to get to greet another dog in the street, or class.
He pulls you to the lady across the street and she tells him how lovely he is even
though now, he is not JUST pulling, but is also jumping up with his muddy paws, to
which she replies, "it's OK, I don't mind!"
Does this sound familiar? What gets rewarded gets repeated FACT!
Both you and your dog need to break old habits. Our course is structured to help improve your dog's 'on-lead' behaviour. Learn how to teach your dog to walk on a loose lead using kind, force-free methods.
Focus and Impulse Control
Do you have problems trying to keep your dogs focus around certain things? Does your dog get over excited and stop listening to you at the sight of another dog, person or squirrel? Does your dog struggle to keep 4 paws on the floor when excited? Would you like to teach your dog to focus on you and learn some new skills? Then this is the workshop for you. Using games and simple exercises we will help teach your dog it can be fun to focus !
